Skin Cancer: Melanoma

Since we are in our summer months when the sun is most promiment in our skies. It is important to make sure to check your skin for any type of suspicious mole, pimple or spot.

WHAT IS SKIN CANCER?

  • Skin cancer is an abnormal growth of skin cells. Skin cancer usally affects places of our body normally exposed such as the face, arms, legs and chests etc.

Melanoma

  • Melanoma is a type of skin cancer and can show up anywhere on the body. Signs of melanoma include a large brownish spot. It could bleed or itch. This is the most dangerous type of skin cancer as it can spread every easily.

HOW DOES IT HAPPEN??

  • It occurs due to expourse to ultraviolet lights. Whenever you are in the sun, you might be getting exposed to UV lights. UV lights come from the sun rays. They usallay change in color, size or even in shape. Melanoma can also develop in our nails and in the eye.


Prevention

  • Make a appointment with your doctor or a dermatologist if you noticed a strange bump or patch on your skin. Treatment could depend on if it has spread and how deep it has gotten. The most important step to prevent skin cancer is wearing a SUNSCREEN with a good spf. Many dermatologists recommend a sunscreen with SPF 30, which blocks most of the sun's UV rays.
